Nutritional FAQs
-
Why are there carbohydrates in the Sugar Free Italian Ice?
The majority of the carbohydrates in these flavors come from sorbitol, a sugar alcohol, and maltodextrin, which is derived from corn. Sugar alcohol and maltodextrin contribute calories and carbohydrates, but no sugar. These ingredients are important in maintaining the consistency and stability of our products during freezing.
-
What does Rita's use to sweeten the Sugar-free Italian Ice flavors?
We sweeten our Sugar Free flavors with a combination of sugar alcohols and sugar substitutes. In addition to sorbitol, we also use the sweetener Aspartame, also known as NutraSweet™, in our Cherry, Root Beer, and Tangerine Sugar Free Italian Ice flavors, and the sugar substitute Sucralose, also known as Splenda®, in our Pink Lemonade Sugar Free Italian Ice.

Do Rita's products contain peanuts, tree nuts or peanut oil?
Rita’s products are derived from nut-free sources. However, please note that some products or ingredients may be manufactured in facilities also processing these nuts or nut-containing ingredients, and we are unable to prevent their cross-contact with such allergens. Refer to our Allergen Chart in the Nutrition Section of this website for more details.
-
Are Rita's products Kosher certified?
All of our Italian Ice mixes and raw custard are certified by the Orthodox Union as kosher at the point of manufacture. The finished product served at the window is not kosher unless the Orthodox Union has certified the store serving the product. Rita's Water Ice Franchise Company maintains contacts at the Kasruth Division of the Orthodox Union. A certified kosher store should have the OU certificate posted in the window or be able to produce a current OU certificate.
