(March 20, 2016) — Today, Rita’s Italian Ice, the world’s largest Italian Ice concept with more than 600 stores in 30 states and 5 countries, celebrates the first day of spring with its 24th annual First Day of Spring Free Italian Ice Giveaway — known to many Rita’s guests as simply “FDOS” — and the return of its famous, award-winning Frozen Custard to stores nationwide. More than one million Rita’s guests from coast to coast will join in on the family-favorite tradition on Sunday, March 20 to snag their free Italian Ice as a fun way to usher in the new season.

“Rita’s FDOS tradition is so incredibly unique in that it brings kids, grandparents and everyone in between together and puts a smile on their faces year after year without fail,” said Jeff Moody, chief executive officer of Rita’s Italian Ice. “If FDOS wasn’t ‘sweet’ enough, this year there’s twice as much to celebrate as our fans can again enjoy our famous Frozen Custard in all of our stores nationwide.”

Spreading Ice, Custard and Happiness

As part of the springtime celebration, all guests who visit a Rita’s location on March 20 during operating hours will receive a free Italian Ice in a limited-edition First Day of Spring cup. Guests are encouraged to snap a photo of their “cool treat” and share it on Instagram and Twitter using #RitasFirstDayOfSpring to enter into the Rita’s First Day of Spring Photo Contest. All guests who use the hashtag from March 20-March 25 will be entered to win free Rita’s Italian Ice for a year. Additionally, Rita’s will debut a new, redesigned Rita’s Rewards mobile app whereby guests can earn rewards by making purchases. All Rewards Members will receive a free “punch” on March 20 toward a free regular Italian Ice, Frozen Custard or Gelati as part of the annual celebration. The Rita’s Ice Rewards app is available via the iTunes App store or Google Play store.

A Sweet Season Ahead

For many Rita’s stores, FDOS will mark the unofficial start of the “treat season,” which will be more delicious than ever this year with the debut of bold and exciting flavors. New this season are JOLLY RANCHER® Treats — two JOLLY RANCHER® Italian Ice flavors and a sweet and tangy crushed JOLLY RANCHER® Topping. JOLLY RANCHER® Green Apple Italian Ice and the crushed topping will be available beginning on March 21, followed by the debut of JOLLY RANCHER® Watermelon Italian Ice on April 4.

Earlier this year, Rita’s also introduced an extension to its signature Italian Ice — All-Natural Italian Ice. The new product is made with simple, natural ingredients and comes in four delicious flavors: Pineapple, Strawberry, Orange and Banana.

Spreading Ice, Custard and Happiness

 Thousands of Rita’s Guests Contribute to 9th Annual Paper Lemon Fundraiser;

Trevose, PA, July 29, 2014 —Rita’s Italian Ice, the world’s largest Italian Ice concept, announced today it raised $300,000 for long-time partner Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a national nonprofit dedicated to finding cures for all kids with cancer.  A check presentation will take place Wednesday, July 30th at 9:30 a.m. at Rita’s Cool Support Center, in Trevose, PA, with Liz & Jay Scott, Alex’s parents and Co-Executive Directors of ALSF, accepting the donation from Jeff Moody, Rita’s Chief Executive Officer.  Childhood cancer survivors and their hero families will be in attendance and will learn how to make and scoop Rita’s famous Italian Ice following the check presentation.

Throughout the month of June, thousands of guests from Rita’s locations across the country contributed to the fundraiser by adding their name to a paper lemon for $1. The paper lemons created a “Wall of Hope” at each store to demonstrate the local community’s support of ALSF, with the funds going toward Rita’s “Fund of Hope,” a travel fund endowment that will help families with children battling cancer travel to receive the treatment that can help save their lives. Rita’s has donated over $3.9 million throughout the past 9 years, including $300,000 this June.

“We’re proud to support ALSF and the fight against childhood cancer for our 9th year in a row,” said Jeff Moody, Chief Executive Officer, Rita’s. “The support toward ALSF from Rita’s Guests, Franchisees and Treat Team Members this past June was simply amazing, and I am thrilled to present ALSF with $300,000 on behalf of the entire Rita’s community.”

Rita’s Italian Ice Appoints New Executives to Accelerate Company’s Growth

Quick Service Veteran Jeff Moody Selected as CEO to Lead the Popular Frozen Treat Brand.  John Dombroski Chosen as Chief Financial Officer.

TREVOSE, PA, August 20, 2013:  Rita’s Italian Ice, the nation’s largest Italian Ice concept with over 600 outlets in 20 states, announced the appointment of two key senior executives today to support the brand’s next phase of growth. Jeff Moody, a 30 year quick service industry veteran, has been selected as Chief Executive Officer, and will assume the role effective immediately.

Moody brings a distinguished 32 year career to Rita’s from CEO of MetroMedia Restaurant Group (Bennigan’s, Steak & Ale, Ponderosa, Bonanza), President of KFC U.S., and a division Vice President at Pizza Hut U.S. where he oversaw 2,000 domestic units. In his most recent restaurant capacity, Jeff was CEO of Subway’s Franchise advertising Trust, which is a separate $600 million entity. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Amherst College, and an MBA from Northwestern. Moody will also join the Company’s Board of Directors.

“Jeff’s experience with growing quick service brands is vital to our vision of expansion,” said Mike Lorelli, Executive Chairman. “Jeff has a long and successful track record of working with franchisees and building brands of leading restaurant companies. We are very happy to have him join our team for the next phase of our growth plan.”

Another senior executive, John Dombroski, has been named Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the company.  Most recently, Dombroski served as Chief Financial Officer of Sancoa, and previously held senior finance positions with Hasbro, and Campbell Soup.  He also holds a Masters from Drexel University and is a registered CPA.

Lorelli will continue as Executive Chairman of the Board of Rita’s and an Operating Partner of Falconhead Capital. Lorelli’s own franchise and QSR experience includes CEO responsibilities at PepsiCo’s franchise bottling business and Pizza Hut, later spun off as YUM Brands.  Falconhead Capital acquired the company in December of 2011.

Quick Service Marketing Veteran, Robin Seward, Joins Rita’s as Chief Marketing Officer

 

TREVOSE, Pa. (January 21, 2015) – Rita’s Italian Ice, the world’s largest Italian Ice concept with more than 600 stores, named Robin Seward as the company’s Chief Marketing Officer. Seward brings nearly 25 years of industry expertise to her new position and will head the development and execution of marketing strategies and research and development at Rita’s Italian Ice.

Seward’s impressive career includes leadership positions at quick-service and full-service restaurant giants such as Burger King Corporation, Carrabba’s Italian Grill and, most recently, Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc., where she served at the helm of the brand experience team as vice president of brand marketing. During her time at Arby’s, she pioneered a new brand positioning campaign, expanded social listening capabilities to improve interaction and crisis identification, and enabled the famous “Pharrell hat” tweet, which garnered considerable exposure for the brand.

 TREVOSE, PA, August 4, 2014:  Rita’s Italian Ice, the world’s largest Italian Ice concept with over 600 stores, announced the debut of two new Italian Ice flavors which are a co-branded collaboration with Jelly Belly Candy Company, the popular gourmet confectionery company.  These new Italian Ice flavors are inspired by the Jelly Belly® jelly bean flavors of Berry Blue and Tutti-Fruitti, and are available at all Rita’s locations beginning today through Sunday, August 24th, 2014. Guests are encouraged to try the new flavors together and enter Rita’s “Name the Jelly Belly® Recipe” contest for a chance to win a Rita’s and Jelly Bellyjellybean prize pack!

The Jelly Belly brand is known for recipes that mix and match different Jelly Belly® jelly beans to create new, unique flavors. Until now, Jelly Belly Berry Blue and Tutti-Fruitti flavors haven’t been officially mixed together. But starting today Rita’s guests can not only mix them together, they can name their delicious new concoction.  To enter the contest, Rita’s fans are encouraged to submit photos of themselves with their Jelly Belly Italian Ice treats and recipe names via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #ritasjellybellyrecipe for a chance to win.

Rita’s Italian Ice Awards Area Development Agreement for New Mexico

Rita’s Expands to 26th State with First of 30 Stores Opening in Albuquerque in March 2015

TREVOSE, PA: July 22, 2014: Rita’s Italian Ice, the world’s largest Italian Ice concept with over 600 stores, announced it has awarded franchise and area development agreements for New Mexico and three cities in southern Colorado, Durango, Pagosa Springs and Trinidad, to RNM Management, Inc., owned by Dave and Mark Gaulden, Albuquerque residents and long-time entrepreneurs.  As Rita’s expands to their 26th state, plans call for 30 stores to be developed over eight years with the first location planned for Albuquerque in March of 2015.  According to Mark Gaulden, the company plans on developing Albuquerque and Santa Fe with 14 company owned stores and sub-franchising the remaining areas of the territory.

Besides bringing “Ice, Custard, Happiness” and “Cool Treats” to New Mexico, plans call for the  creation of over 700 new jobs by hiring “Treat Team” members from each of the local communities surrounding every new Rita’s. The first New Mexico Rita’s store, opening March 2015 in Albuquerque, will employ approximately 20 Treat Team members from the local area.

EBIE plans to develop at least 75 Rita’s stores over the next several years throughout six Northern California counties:  Alameda, Contra Costa, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz.

Eric Taylor joined the Rita’s team in April 2014, and is responsible for the expansion of the Rita’s global footprint. He has held senior leadership roles in multiple leading restaurant chains such as MetroMedia Restaurant Group (Bennigan’s, Steak & Ale, Ponderosa, Bonanza), where he oversaw restaurant brands in over 40 states and 20 countries worldwide. In his most recent restaurant capacity, Eric was Vice President, International Franchise Development at Sbarro.  Eric holds a B.S. in Marketing from Arizona State University and is originally from Rita’s home turf in Philadelphia, PA.
